Job analysis is
the cornerstone of many human resource projects. Test development,
training, compensation and classification all depend on job analysis
data. Conducting an effective
job analysis requires understanding what information is necessary for the
project, how to best extract that information from the organization, and how
to best analyze the data received in order to provide the clearest picture of
the job under study. In test development, the job analysis study should
result in the identification of the essential tasks and duties and
knowledges, skills and abilities required to perform the job. For
training design, frequency and consequence of error are two important factors
to consider in identifying critical tasks or duties upon which to train.
The specific criteria used should be based on the goal of the study. PMGLC has extensive expertise in incorporating such information into job analysis. Further, we have conducted job analyses for such diverse clients as public safety, manufacturing, power utility, transportation, communication, and international private organizations. In the process, we have developed expertise in both large and small-scale job analysis surveys, their design, data entry and analysis. PMGLC develops customized job survey instruments for use in collecting job analysis data. These surveys are used for both task data as well as knowledges, skills and abilities data collection. Where appropriate PMGLC develops customized scannable surveys that can used to quickly input job analysis data via our optical scanners and survey software. Using customized surveys allows PMGLC to more quickly and efficiently respond to the client's needs. PMGLC has developed a job analysis program
that identifies critical tasks or work activities, critical technical and
non-technical knowledges, skills, and abilities and minimum and preferred
qualifications for work in any position. PMGLC’s job analysis program can be used in direct
face-to-face meetings with subject matter experts but more typically is
deployed via web conference. The
use of this program coupled with our web conferencing capability allows PMGLC to project its job analysis expertise over great distances and
to bring together non co-located subject matter experts in “virtual” focus
group meetings. The program
provides fast and accurate job analysis results that are customized to our
client’s work environment, culture, and workforce needs.
PMGLC has also developed a simple to use,
graphics driven job analysis information retrieval system. This product
is available to the client for easy retrieval of information by non-technical
personnel.
